Free noise/rock/improv/texture trio with (ex-)members of Ettrick, Evangelista, Flying Luttenbachers, Mute Socialite, & Gowns.
Jacob Felix Heule is an improvising drummer and multi-instrumentalist whose music spans the spectrum from overwhelming brutality to reductionist austerity. Free improv, noise, black metal and gamelan all have influenced his aesthetic and technique. Jacob primarily works in small groups with double bassist Tony Dryer, and his dual drum+sax brutal improv/acoustic grind duo, Ettrick. He has played in small group situations with James Plotkin, C Spencer Yeh, Jack Wright, Weasel Walter, Sarah Cathers & Sarah Bernat (16 Bitch Pile-Up), etc. Jacob plays drums with Gowns on their forthcoming Southern Records Latitudes Sessions album.
Tony Dryer has played bass guitar and toured extensively with rock groups including the Flying Luttenbachers, the Cold War, and Usurp Synapse. In recent years he has focused his attention on the acoustic double bass, and has recently completed a solo tour of the US supporting Ettrick. His trio with Jacob Felix Heule and Jacob Lindsay has a CD forthcoming on Creative Sources.
Ava Mendoza is a guitarist with roots in free improvisation and early country & blues music. She likes working with very tight, specific riffs or compositional ideas and then throwing musical monkey wrenches into them in performance--forcing them to self-destruct and intersect with free improvisation. She is currently touring with the proggy post-punk band, Mute Socialite, and just completed a US tour playing guitar with Carla Bozulich's Evangelista. Her quartet with Weasel Walter, Damon Smith and Jacob Lindsay has a new album, Jus, out on Balance Point Acoustics.
All three are touring Norway for two weeks in early September as the American half of the Bay/Oslo Mirror Trio, a double power trio of American and Norwegian improvisers.
