Many of them do not show up in our overall "top-40" even though they get played on a regular basis by those DJs. This list is sent out biweekly, except when WSUM is not operating on its normal schedule because of winter or spring break, or other such things. If receipt of this list is an unwanted nuisance to you, please reply and we'll take you off the recipients' list. Archives of this chart can be found at the Breakthrough in Grey Room website: http://www.sit.wisc.edu/~jfheule/breakthrough/. Discs at the top of the list were played the most often. The shows most likely to play this music are on Mondays from 6 PM to Midnight and Wednesday from 10 PM to 1 AM (all CST). Listen live over the internet at http://wsum.wisc.edu. On "Throne is Melting", Bastard Noise hits us up with 63 minutes of noise but manages to keep it fresh. The title tracks uses a lot of vocals, notably a deep death metal voice growling out the name of the song. Pretty crazy stuff. It's also the shortest song at 2:02. On the other extreme, "Red Hurricane" is a rather mellow (still noise, don't get me wrong) drone that lasts for 20:47. There's also some more traditional wall-of-sound type stuff ("Untitled") and a strange departure into spoken word over some Eastern-sounding strings. John Weise is also notably featured on the recent Gameboy release "Popular Music for Popular People" along with Cock ESP and a bunch of other noise superstars. Helicopter's other current release by Sissy Spacek is also damn cool. Both of these albums get honorable mention this week. Comments: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The fall schedule has started and things are looking good. We've got at least 8 hours of primarily experimental/avant-garde stuff and quite a few other shows likely to mix some of it in. The avant-garde shows are primarily weekdays from 10pm-12am. We netcast (as always) at http://wsum.wisc.edu. The tower construction is currently being help up until the governor gets his head out of his ass and signs the contract, but I don't think it will be too much longer. We're still behind on adding albums and will try to deal with it soon. I think we've been making progress, at least. --Jacob Heule (Program Director / Experimental Music Director)
