Slide guitars, minimal percussion and vocals. Everyone involved with Califone is also in Loftus and the connection is very apparent. Also similar to Sin Ropas, but less influenced by rock. Overall, this is great c&w style post-rock. Matt Goins (Monday 6pm-9pm): Nobukazu Takemura - Hoshi No Koe (Thrill Jockey): The whole album is not necessarily up to his usual standard of excellence, but certain tracks, particularly "Sign" (available as a 60 minute 12" which is an overall much better record), are really impressive. The majority of the tracks are pretty boring, however. David Parisi (Friday 12am-2am): Adult. - Resuscitation (Ersatz Audio): The duo from Detroit offer a full length from their own Ersatz Audio electro label, and that's partly what this release is: heavy electro jams. The synths, although they make up the album's many melodies, always sound absolutely synthetic. The vocals (featured on every track except two) push Adult. into more than just a bass music group. Separating themselves from any human-like touch to their music, Adult. become more than human. My favorites are: Lost Love, Contagious, and Skinlike. Punks can rock to this... a loading dock crime scene from the future. Alex Palecek (Friday 10pm-12am): Anthony Braxton - Composition N. 247 (Leo): One one-hour track of reiterative saxophone, clarinet, and bagpipes. Paradoxically, it is simultaneous nerve-wracking and lulling. Closest thing I've heard to trance recently. Imagine being rocked to sleep on a cloud while a woodpecker rhythmically detaches your ear. Comments: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alex Palecek was just recently added to our schedule, so we now have 10 hours of avant-garde programming every week. Damn! As you can see, we have DJ picks with brief comments. Hope you are informed and entertained. --Jacob Heule (Program Director / Experimental Music Director)
